August 2004

Phil Sandahl, of Co-Active Coaching fame, came to the Minnesota Coaches Association last evening to share with us the idea of living an inspired life. We reach a point where our way of living life no longer suits us and we long to live another way, an inspired way. We pass a point of no return. (OS!M for the Steve Farber fans, GULP for the Bigger Game fans). At that point life is no longer possible in the old way.

What are you saying yes to from this point forwart?
What are you saying no to from this point forward?

warmth breaks the dawn

silent breeze calms the trees

smell the air

its here

summer rain

Sometimes blogging takes a backseat. I have had so many great experiences and insights lately that I have forgotten to blog it. Ooops.

But I can’t let this slip by. If you are a fan of old Simon & Garfunkle and like Bosa Nova I have a group for you! I came by this group in a fun sort of way – online dating. (Greatboyfriends.com to be exact). A really nice gal wrote me a letter and talked about this group Kings of Convenience. They are a Norwegian band based in the UK. I did a little search on the internet and found their website and not only that a cool flash site which has their entire new album available for listening. Now that is a wave of the future in music marketing. Its not downloadable, but you can hear the entire album before purchasing.

Check them out at http://www.kingsofconvenience.com/
Hear the album http://www.fs1.co.uk/ecard/kings/
Buy the album http://tinyurl.com/6tseb (yes it is an affiliate link to amazon.com, but hey if you like it, give me some credit for recommending it to you)

TinyURL.com – where tiny is better! This is a great service, especially when you have one of those super long URLs to send to someone or have to put into a newsletter. For example:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00026W82U/moviepalacelocat becomes

When was the last time that you walked across town.

Have you ever?

Why not?

It is a very different perspective on your town. I mean when we travel abroad, especially to places like Europe and Central America we walk everywhere. My trips have always included days where we spent 10-15miles of walking a day – and if you count the miles inside of museums its even more.

When we walk we see more of the city. We see people. We can stop in that funky store that we are always zooming by. We can walk down this road versus that road. We don’t even have to take the roads we would normally drive because we are not worried about speed.

Its funny. I wanted to walk to the Minneapolis Institute of Art yesterday to attend their Accoustic Sunrise (its not at sunrise, its actually at noon, but the name is catchy!) I had nothing planned for the day and I wanted to get some exercise in so I chose to walk. I discovered rapidly that without the car I didn’t quite know how to get there. So I downloaded a map from mapquest and plotted my course.

The first third was same old – its my stomping ground for my neighborhood walks, however when I got 38th and Bryant I detoured. I didn’t take the same old streets that I would normally drive. I took side streets. Said hello to fellow walkers and people working in their yard. As I approached Whittier I discovered a whole new part of town that I really had never noticed before. Mansions! If you stick to the main thoroughfare you will never see them. Apparently these are all the rage these days as people are discovering these huge houses in decent shape in a perceived not so "safe" neighborhood. I toured one on my walk. Oh another thing you can do when you are out walking the town on Sunday you can walk right into open houses, just because its there.

New houses, new neighborhoods, new restaurants, new perspectives. Take a walk on the wildside and be a tourist at home. Walk across town.

What you put into the world comes back to you, especially when its positive energy.

I was debating today with myself whether or not to tell this woman that I thought she was wearing great boots. This was after I passed up the first opportunity to tell her. So as I waited for my light (I was out walking) She peddled her bike up to the corner and I bit the bullet. I really wasn’t flirting, just acknowledging a great style and character that I saw in the boots which seemed to match the person. The smile on her face was like it was the first nice thing anyone had said to her all day (it was 5pm btw). She said thank you and off she road.

I skipped back to my car feeling good that I had made someone’s day.

After a weird evening I went to see Shrek 2 in the budget theatre (cute, not great, but Puss -n- Boots is awesome!) Anyway. The movie had the desired effect and as I got into my car this guy, obviously on the way to the next showing stops to say that my car was really pretty. It has been eons since anyone made a comment about my car. It is pretty – 1994 red BMW 325i. Not that I bought it as a status symbol or to show it off, but it is nice when someone comments on it. I mean its a 10 year old car, but it still looks good and is really fun to drive. And yes it is pretty. Made my day.

Hmm.

FYI with respect to my previous post – it is a recycled car.
